What is COVID - 19?:-

As we already aware about COVID - 19, still let me explain in detail. Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Most people who fall sick with COVID-19 will experience mild to moderate symptoms and recover without special treatment. However, some will become seriously ill and require medical attention.

What is COVID new variant?:-

The most virus – including SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19 – evolve over time. When a virus replicates or makes copies of itself, it sometimes changes a little bit, which is normal for a virus. These changes are called “mutations”. Any virus with one or more new mutations can be referred to as a “variant” of the original virus.

What is COVID Omicron variant?:-

Omicron is new variant and it is very danger. Omicron variant is a variant of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. The variant was first reported to the World Health Organization from South Africa on 24 November 2021.

As per world health organization (WHO) has declared a new coronavirus variant to be "of concern" and named it Omicron. It had a large number of mutations, and early evidence suggested an increased reinfection risk.

How Omicron is effective?:-

The variant has a large number of mutations, of which some are concerning. Thirty-two mutations affect the the spike protein target of antibodies generated by infections and of many vaccines widely administered. Many of those mutations had not been observed in other strains.  The variant is characterized by 30 amino acid changes, three small deletions and one small insertion in the spike protein compared with the original virus, of which 15 are located in the receptor binding domain (residues 319-541). It also carries a number of changes and deletions in other genomic regions.  Of note, the variant has three mutations at the furan cleavage site.

South Africa has complained it is being punished - instead of applauded - for discovering Omicron, a concerning new variant of Covid-2019.

WHO updated reports Omicron appeared first in South Africa:-

Omicron is the newest Covid-19 "variant of concern, the variant's existence was first reported by South Africa as per updated reports and published by World Health Organization (WHO).

The number of people testing positive has risen in areas of South Africa affected by this variant COVID - 19.  As of today we have recorded a total of 19 cases which is Omicron new variant.

Botswana, the only African country outside South Africa to have Omicron COVID -19 Variant.

According to Indian foreign ministry made the statement as countries around the world restricted travel from southern Africa as details of the spread emerged.

News about omicron in India:-

According to the center's November 11 guideline for international passengers sample for RT-PCR test are to be submitted on landing, after passengers are allowed to lave the airport. 

A 33 years old resident of Dombivli in Mumbai, who arrived from South Africa via Delhi on November tested positive.

Biden on Monday called the coronavirus variant omicron a " cause for concern not a cause for panic" as he urged American to get vaccinated against COVID - 19.
